"...is a symbol of light and hope amid the turmoil. It is a book to be treasured and to take comfort in." - by Erin Nicole Cochran for Readersā Favorite

The story has a somber beginning, people are pictured under gray skies with no smiles on their faces. It reminds me of how Ukrainian people have struggled for freedom throughout history. The story quickly becomes upbeat and joyful. We follow an innocent little girlās journey through the countryside as she introduces us to many Ukrainian traditions. We meet the girlās Babusia (grandmother), and are quickly immersed into Ukrainian culture. We learn about home-cooked Ukrainian food, music, dance, and holidays.
The author has thoughtfully enhanced the storytelling by cleverly using rhyming words. The literature has been well complemented with beautiful illustrations throughout.
Reading āFinding Freedomā was really heartfelt. I found myself reflecting on the struggles and joys that my parents experienced growing up in āthe old countryā as they used to refer to their homeland, Ukraine.
I highly recommend āFinding Freedomā to anyone interested in introducing their children or themselves to exploring Ukrainian culture through a heartwarming and beautifully illustrated story. This book will be shared, enjoyed and loved for many years to come in our family, and yes, there will always be an Ukraine!
My girlfriend and I read this book together (she is from Ukraine). She teared up looking through the illustrations, and even though I have never been to Ukraine, the book evoked so many emotions and thoughts in me. I felt like I revisited my childhood, I felt so carefree. I also learned more about Ukrainian culture. Glossary in the back helped a lot! No matter how old you are or where you are from, this book will move you, inspire you and give you hope!
